PMAY-U is a mobile app that has been launched to enable homebuyers across India in many significant ways. Although the mobile app was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in June 2015, the latest update will now enable homebuyers to apply for a subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Urban) scheme.
Here are two significant ways in which the PMAY-U app will ease the processes for homebuyers in India:
- Simplifying subsidy application: The PMAY-U app will enable the existing beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Urban) to upload photos and videos of completed houses along with testimonies. The app makes it very easy for prospective homebuyers to apply for a subsidy with the use of their smartphone. However, the ministry has announced that the photos and videos uploaded by the beneficiaries will be thoroughly scrutinized so as to curtail fraudulent applications. Once this facility is made available on the app, homebuyers will be able to avoid the hassle of arduous process and avail the subsidy with far greater ease.
- Boosting affordable housing: The Government of India is focused on boosting its affordable housing sector to meet the target of ‘Housing For All By 2022’. The target has been set at the construction of one crore new housing units in the urban areas across the country by the year 2022. According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, more than 15 lakh units have already been completed, while 40 lakh units are under construction, and 73 lakh units have been duly sanctioned. Moreover, 12 lakh housing units are being constructed using a range of new construction technologies. Along with meeting the construction targets, the focus is on enabling homebuyers in more ways than one, but especially by providing financial assistance to the beneficiaries of the PMAY scheme. The PMAY-U app will aid this process significantly.
